IN-CHARACTER:
Character name: Theodore "Teddy" Altman
Character journal: [personal profile] hulkintraining
Series name: Marvel Comics (616)
Canon notes: End of New Avengers #4 (2015).
Species: Alien hybrid; half Skrull and half Kree.
Age: 18

Arrival Condition: He'll have a complete clean bill of health! His alien physiology allows him to heal from most wounds and protects him from most illness.

History: Here.

Personality: Teddy is your average teenage boy who likes reading comics, geeking out over superheroes with his boyfriend and ditching combat training in favor of Saturday date nights. He just so happens to also be alien royalty and a member of a superhero team. What’s important to know about Teddy is that he’s a good guy who, like most, tries his best to do the right thing. He's loyal, to his Young Avenger teammates in particular, whose side he always takes, even when he doesn't agree with them. He will try to reason with them, and never let them forget what a big mistake he thinks they're all making, but at the end of the day his loyalty is ride-or-die towards the people he considers his family. He's also very stubborn. Once he has set his mind to something he doesn't do things halfway. Whether it be finally confronting his destiny by pulling Excelsior from its resting place, or separating from Billy for awhile so he can have some space for himself, no matter how much it hurts, Teddy doesn't back down once his mind is made up.

He’s also not one to lament on guilt and let it consume him for long. He tends to deal with things logically as they happen, and then afterwards takes the time to sort through the emotional backlash until he’s good as new. This can be more clearly seen during the mini Skrull/Kree war over him where he deals with the invasion first and mourns his mother after everything is said and done. The fact that a few of his teammates are angst-mongers gives Teddy a bit of a self-less mother hen streak as he’s more likely to focus on pulling them back together before dealing with his own issues. Because of this, he tends to shove his emotional needs aside to better accommodate others, usually Billy. He tends to be self-conscious about showing emotional vulnerability because he tends to cling to the idea of being the stable bedrock for Billy and his friends to lean on. That isn't to say that he hasn't gotten better at expressing himself, as he's been shown to share his feelings with trusted friends, and has even sought out therapy before.

While usually polite and level-headed, things incongruous with the Hulk for whom he models his hero persona after, Teddy has quite the temper and isn't above threatening to maim people, or using his shape-shifting abilities to intimidate if he feels like there's a threat to the well-being of his loved ones. He's fiercely protective of Billy in particular, and anything bad happening to him is a sure-fire way to send him into a rage. However, rage aside, Teddy also has a high capacity for forgiveness and doesn't tend to allow resentment to fester. He offers the Super Skrull who killed his mother the benefit of the doubt after he explains that he hadn't been trying to kill her. He even gets over Loki's manipulations that almost destroyed his relationship, despite the god not wanting to be forgiven.

Self-worth is a thing that is very tenuous for Teddy at times. Even after becoming a hero and learning about his destiny to rule the Kree-Skull empire, he's very much still that normal teenage boy who played basketball in school in order to gain acceptance from the boys who would mock him if they found out he was gay. Teddy wants nothing more than to be loved for himself, but even he has said he would become anything for Billy, as if being himself is somehow not enough. When he's at his lowest being a hero is what makes him truly feel like he's good enough. He can be the best version of himself when he fights crime and saves people. Teddy is able to define himself as a hero even when he struggles to define who he is as a regular guy.

Abilities: His Kree-Skrull blood gives him quite a few abilities, but the most important is his ability to shape-shift. Usually he limits his shape-shifting to his Hulkling form, which requires him to change his skin color to green, grow claws, wings, and hardened layers shell on both of his shoulders. But he can do so much more with the ability. He’s able to make himself look like an exact copy of anyone he wants. In particular we’ve seen him shift to look like Tony Stark, Billy Kaplan, and Hank Pym. Lastly, as with his Hulkling form, he can shift his body to make claws, spikes, wings. He can change the consistency of his skin, making it thicker or thinner. He can even make parts of his body into elastic, a la Mr. Fantastic, that can wrap around things and is perfect for shutting Loki up. While it's never quite explained, his super hero uniform that he wears under his civilian clothing is likely a part of him as it not only grows and shrinks with his shape-shifting abilities, but has also been shown to warp into different clothing at Teddy's command. Also, the things he makes with his body are perfectly functional; like his wings for example, which he can use to fly.

Teddy is also gifted with super strength, making him stronger than an average human. He gets this ability from his Kree blood, but the mixture of Skrull blood makes him stronger than even an average Kree. He also has a healing factor that allows him to heal quickly. We’re never told where his healing ability stands in comparison with say, Wolverine, but it does work quickly and seems pretty substantial. Teddy can also adapt certain things about his body to handle different situations. In one case, while unconscious, he was able to shift his vital organs around to avoid being vivisected.

He's picked up a magical alien space sword, Excelsior. It's powers are super vague but basically it has great cosmic powers, including the ability to absorb and negate mystical energy, and its wielder gets to inherit and rule space. Despite being its owner Teddy doesn't use it in battle much and is nowhere close to being considered a swordsman. If brought into the game, it will be a normal sword.

I don't believe any of his abilities need dampening but I'm fully willing to discuss that. If anything, I don't mind putting limits on his shape-shifting or healing abilities. In terms of his shape-shifting into people, even in canon Teddy doesn't do this often or without reason. I will absolutely never have him copy someone without the permission of the other player. I will gladly include an opt-out in his permissions as well.

Personal Item: If possible I'd like for him to bring his magical alien sword, Excelsior, minus all its magical abilities. For game purposes it would just be a really cool looking sword.

My second choice would be his cellphone.
